Bill Gates predicts the future of AI will be personal digital assistants

Bill Gates: The future of AI is personal digital assistants

Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates believes that the future of artificial intelligence will be personal digital assistants. He said these assistants will be able to perform tasks for people, such as searching the web, scheduling appointments, and making purchases.

Gates believes personal digital assistants will be so useful that people will no longer need to use search engines, productivity software, or online shopping sites.

“Whoever wins the personal agent, that’s a big thing,” Gates said.

Gates made these comments at the I Forward 2023 event in San Francisco. He said that the race to develop the best personal digital assistant is already underway and that the company that wins this race will have a major advantage in the future.

Bill Gates is not the only one who believes that personal digital assistants are the future of AI. A recent report by Gartner predicts that by 2024, 70% of people will use a personal digital assistant daily.

There are already several personal digital assistants on the market, such as Amazon’s Alexa, Apple’s Siri, and Google Assistant. However, Gates believes that these assistants are still in their early stages of development. He says that the next generation of personal digital assistants will be much more powerful and capable.

“You’ll never go to a search site again,” he said. “You’ll never go to Amazon.”

“Whoever wins that, it will take the current dispersed high-profit areas and move it to a single area,” Gates added.

Startups and tech giants compete for the future of personal digital assistants

Gates is not the only one excited about the potential of personal digital assistants. Many startups are working on developing new AI technologies that could be used in digital assistants. One of these startups is Inflection AI, which is co-founded by Reid Hoffman, the co-founder of LinkedIn.

Gates expressed his belief that there is a 50% chance that the AI winner will either be a startup or an established tech giant. He voiced his expectation for Microsoft to be a strong contender in this race.

“I’d be disappointed if Microsoft didn’t come in there,” Gates said. “But I’m impressed with a couple of startups, including Inflection,” he added.

Inflection AI is developing a new type of AI that is more capable and efficient than current AI systems. The company believes that this technology could be used to create a personal digital assistant that is truly useful and helpful.

It is still too early to say who will win the race to develop the best personal digital assistant. However, it is clear that this is an area of great potential, and that the company that wins this race will have a major advantage in the future.
