Workday introduces cutting-edge AI and ML services to supercharge developer capabilities

Workday empowers developers with next-gen AI & ML services

Workday, a frontrunner in enterprise cloud applications for finance and human resources, has announced substantial upgrades to its Workday Extend platform. These enhancements are designed to enhance the developer experience, driving business and IT efficiency and fostering innovation. The company unveiled these new capabilities at its annual customer conference, Workday Rising, and they include Workday AI Gateway, advanced developer technologies from Amazon Web Services (AWS), and a user-friendly no-code/low-code toolset.

Unveiling Workday AI Gateway

Workday Extend, designed to help organizations create customized capabilities, applications, and solutions for finance and HR processes, is now introducing the Workday AI Gateway. This groundbreaking feature grants developers access to Workday’s AI and ML services, offering an array of services, including:

  • Skills Analysis: Leveraging Workday Skills Cloud to extract relevant skills from text data.
  • Sentiment Analysis: Analyzing digital text to determine emotional tone.
  • Document Intelligence: Extracting business-relevant fields from documents such as resumes and receipts.
  • ML Forecaster: Providing time series forecasting capabilities.

These AI and ML services seamlessly integrate into the platform, ensuring trust and reliability in finance and HR applications.

Empowering Developers with AWS Integration

The company collaborates with Amazon Web Services (AWS) to offer native integration with several AWS AI services. Developers can harness these services to create advanced features within Workday Extend apps, including event processing, customizable functions, and storage. AWS AI services such as Amazon Comprehend, Amazon Rekognition, Amazon Textract, and Amazon Translate will be accessible, enabling deeper insights across text, images, videos, and languages.

Connectors from Workday Orchestrate to AWS services will provide a secure way for developers to interact with AWS services.

Accelerating App Development with No-Code Tools and Generative AI

Workday is enhancing no-code experiences for developers with its App Builder toolset. These enhancements include code generation from data, allowing developers to create code from Workday business objects visually. Introducing a page builder will enable developers to construct full apps through a no-code visual interface.

Moreover, Workday is introducing Developer Copilot, a human-machine teaming capability that uses generative AI to streamline the development lifecycle. Embedded into App Builder, this feature will translate natural language into app code, boosting developer productivity and reducing time-to-value.

These innovations will provide Workday Extend developers with an intuitive, visual experience to create apps more swiftly, consolidate systems, adapt to changing business needs, and deliver a more connected user experience.

Workday Extend: Empowering Business Developers

Matt Grippo, General Manager of Cloud Platform at Workday, highlighted the significance of Workday Extend, stating, “Workday Extend is the essential platform enabling customers and partners to build apps that support their unique finance and people needs. Our new Workday AI Gateway and native AWS integration opens the door to a world of new possibilities that allow developers to move fast, accelerate innovation, and deliver deep business value securely and responsibly at scale.”

Availability and Future Rollouts

Workday plans to introduce new offerings for Workday Extend in late 2023, including Workday Extend Essentials and Workday Extend Professional. Workday AI Gateway will be available with Workday Extend Professional, with AWS AI services expected in the first half 2024.

The code generation from data capability for App Builder is currently available. In contrast, the page builder capability is scheduled for early adopter access in the first half of 2024, with general availability later that year. Developer Copilot is set to roll out to Workday Extend customers within the next 6 to 12 months, marking a significant milestone in the evolution of Workday Extend.
