IBM and Meta forge strategic partnership to integrate Llama 2 model into Watsonx.ai platform

In a move aimed at bolstering its AI capabilities and strengthening its position in the evolving AI landscape, IBM has announced its strategic collaboration with Meta to incorporate the Llama 2-chat 70 billion parameter model into its enterprise-ready AI and data platform, Watsonx. This development marks a significant step in IBM’s journey towards advancing generative AI and expanding its offerings within the AI domain.

The integration of Meta’s Llama 2-chat model into the watsonx.ai studio underscores IBM’s dedication to providing cutting-edge AI solutions to its discerning clientele. IBM offers early access to this powerful model to select clients and partners, paving the way for innovative applications and solutions that leverage the model’s capabilities.

Llama 2 is a large language model (LLM) that can be used for various tasks, including question-answering, content generation, and summarization. IBM’s decision to host Llama 2 on Watsonx is part of the company’s strategy to offer third-party and its own AI models on the platform.

Watsonx offers other AI models

In addition to Llama 2, Watsonx also offers a variety of other AI models from IBM and the Hugging Face community. These models can support a range of NLP tasks, such as text classification and extraction.

IBM is committed to keeping trust and security principles at the forefront as it continues to roll out its generative AI capabilities. For instance, when users run the Llama 2 model through the prompt lab in watsonx.ai, they can toggle on the AI guardrails function to help automatically remove harmful language from the input prompt text as well as the output generated by the model.

IBM Consulting also has the expertise of 21,000 data, AI, and automation consultants in addition to its Center of Excellence for Generative AI, comprised of more than 1,000 consultants with specialized generative AI expertise. These experts can help clients tune and operationalize models for targeted use cases aligned with their business requirements.

IBM and Meta are both supporters of open innovation. There is value in engaging a robust and diverse community of AI builders and researchers to test, share feedback, and collaborate on these technologies to drive further innovation.

The integration of Meta’s Llama 2 model into IBM’s Watsonx.ai studio signals a pivotal stride toward realizing the full potential of generative AI. As the industry eagerly anticipates the outcomes of this collaboration, it’s apparent that the AI landscape is poised for a new era of innovation and transformative solutions.
