Eaton revolutionizes data center operations with a new digital portfolio

Eaton revolutionizes data center management with new portfolio

Eaton, a leading intelligent power management company, marked a significant milestone in the data center industry by introducing a cutting-edge platform to propel digital transformation. This forward-looking portfolio of digital solutions, unveiled as part of Eaton’s Brightlayer Data Centers suite, promises to elevate uptime, optimize performance, and enhance sustainability, all within a single, native application.

Eaton’s innovation represents a pioneering initiative in the industry, merging asset management, IT, and operational technology (OT) device monitoring, power quality metrics, and advanced electrical supervision.

“Point solutions are no longer sufficient to provide data processing center operators the visibility they need into their increasingly complex ecosystem of IT and OT assets,” said Mike Jackson, Global Director of Product, Data Center and Distributed IT software at Eaton.

“This is especially the case as operations expand beyond the core data center to hyperscale, multi-tenant, and various edge locations. The new solutions in our Brightlayer Data Centers suite leverage a single, native application to manage, monitor, and control a wide range of infrastructure assets while providing seamless integration with other software and a simplified way to expand software capabilities as an operator’s needs grow.”

Data processing center operators increasingly recognize the opportunities presented by leveraging data to bolster sustainability efforts. This trend aligns with the mounting internal and external pressures to reduce carbon footprints. A study, “The intersection of digital transformation and the energy transition,” commissioned by Eaton and developed by S&P Global Market Intelligence, revealed that 40% of data processing center operators actively seek digitalization avenues to curtail overall energy costs.

Additionally, over one-third of operators focus on reducing waste, encompassing heat and materials. Furthermore, 46% of operators are already implementing or planning to employ digital technology to monitor and achieve their sustainability objectives.

Eaton’s Brightlayer Data Centers Suite: A Game-Changer

Eaton’s Brightlayer Data Centers suite provides a unified application for the comprehensive management, monitoring, and control of critical site power management assets. These encompass uninterruptible power supplies (UPSs), power distribution units (PDUs), switchgear, generators, cooling equipment, battery storage, solar equipment, and more.

The platform offers three distinct solutions, adaptable to individual customer requirements:

  • Data Center Performance Management Software: This software monitors assets, provides valuable trends, alerts, and reports, and manages critical resources like power, space, connectivity, and cooling to maximize IT application uptime while minimizing capital and operating expenditures.
  • Electrical Power Monitoring System Software: Delivering real-time and historical visibility into a data center’s electrical power system, this software is instrumental in swiftly resolving unexpected issues and identifying root causes. It also aids in understanding resource consumption (water, air, gas, electricity, and steam) to reduce operational costs and achieve sustainability targets.
  • Distributed IT Performance Management Software: This software efficiently manages network-connected assets such as PDUs and UPSs, irrespective of vendor or location. It proactively identifies and automates actions to prevent IT equipment downtime and boasts built-in cybersecurity protection for critical data safeguarding.

Eaton’s Showcase at Data Center World Asia

Eaton ensures scalability and flexibility in its offerings, allowing customers to augment functionality without migrating data or integrating multiple software platforms. Furthermore, the application seamlessly integrates with third-party software solutions, including building management systems, configuration management databases, and IT service management applications, to enhance efficiency, productivity, data accuracy, decision-making, and cost-effectiveness.

Eaton will showcase its enhanced Brightlayer Data Center Suite, containerized data center, iCube micro data center, and liquid cooling solutions at the forthcoming Data Center World Asia event at booth T25 in Singapore on October 11 and 12, 2023. During the event, attendees can also look forward to Eaton experts sharing their insights on sustainability and data processing center redesign topics.

Rich Farrell, APAC Regional Director of Cybersecurity, Digitalization, and Data Center at Eaton, said, “Given the pace of digitalization in the region, as well as growing integration of AI across a wide range of applications by APAC governments and businesses, the need for visibility and seamless management across all aspects of critical data center infrastructure will continue to grow.”

Eaton’s commitment to innovation and sustainability is poised to redefine the data center landscape, ushering in a new era of efficiency, reliability, and environmental responsibility.
