Adobe to incorporate Generative AI capabilities into its video editing software

Adobe announced its intention to incorporate new capabilities based on artificial intelligence (AI) technology into its video editing software, widely employed by the film and TV sectors.

Adobe is capitalizing on the growing trend of generative AI, fueled by advancements from OpenAI, a company backed by Microsoft, and Stability AI, a startup that enables users to generate new images with minimal textual input.

“With a single button, we can generate 1,000 versions of the same localized video,” Ivo Manolov, Adobe vice president of digital and video audio enterprise offerings, told Reuters.

Capabilities of Adobe video editing AI tools

The new features in Adobe’s video editing software will enable editors to alter various aspects of a scene, such as shifting the lighting from a midday setting to sunset or creating background music by simply entering a few text prompts to guide the system. These capabilities are an extension of Adobe Firefly, a novel system that the company launched recently to generate text and still images.

With the new Adobe video tools, users can direct the AI system to analyze a script and produce a storyboard for the final product automatically. The system can also suggest some shots for a preliminary story version. For the advertising industry, the system will feature functionalities that can generate diverse background music and scenery to showcase the advertisement in various nations using existing footage.

The tools are being tested and will likely be released by the end of 2023.

Adobe, a major software provider for visual and video creatives, assures its clients that content generated by its Firefly system will be legally permissible for commercial use.

However, the legality of using such AI-generated content for commercial purposes has been questioned. Getty Images filed a lawsuit against Stability AI, alleging that the startup unlawfully utilized copyrighted images from Getty in its AI training.
