Elon Musk’s artificial intelligence startup, xAI, introduced its inaugural AI model, a chatbot named “Grok,” to a select group of users this Saturday. This development follows the remarkable success of OpenAI’s ChatGPT, which captivated businesses and individuals worldwide and triggered a substantial uptick in the adoption of generative AI technology.
Elon Musk, the co-founder of OpenAI, the organization behind ChatGPT, established xAI in 2015. Nevertheless, he relinquished his position on the company’s board in 2018.
The xAI technology will be integrated into Musk’s social media platform, X (formerly known as Twitter), and will also be available as a standalone app. “Grok” is now accessible to all X Premium+ subscribers.
X recently introduced two new subscription plans: a Premium+ tier priced at $16 per month for users seeking an ad-free experience and a basic tier available for $3 per month.
The primary objective of Elon Musk’s startup is to create AI tools that “assist humanity in its quest for understanding and knowledge.” “Grok” has been specifically designed to provide responses to questions with a touch of humor and wit.
According to Musk, “Grok” has the advantage of real-time access to information via the X platform, setting it apart from other AI models.
“Grok has real-time access to info via the X platform, which is a massive advantage over other models,” Musk said.
Elon Musk, a prominent figure in the tech industry, has been vocal about his concerns regarding Big Tech’s AI efforts and what he perceives as censorship. Earlier this year, he announced his intention to launch a “maximum truth-seeking AI” to rival Google’s Bard and Microsoft’s Bing AI, aiming to understand the nature of the universe.
At a recent global AI Safety Summit in Bletchley Park, England, Musk conveyed his belief that AI is “the most disruptive force in history” and speculated that it has the potential to revolutionize employment as we currently know it.
The xAI team comprises experts from Google’s DeepMind, Microsoft’s parent company, and other renowned AI research firms. While X and xAI are distinct entities, they maintain a close working relationship. xAI also collaborates with Tesla and various other companies to advance AI technology.
This move by Elon Musk’s xAI, unveiling the “Grok” AI model, is set to bring a new dimension to the world of AI-powered interactions and information access through the X platform, further solidifying Musk’s commitment to advancing AI technology for the betterment of humanity.
