NASSCOM’s top priority is making India digital hub of the world: Krishnan Ramanujam

Krishnan Ramanujam, the NASSCOM chairman, has said the IT industry’s top priority is making India the world’s digital hub. In April, Krishnan Ramanujam was appointed as the chairperson of the National Association of Software and Services Companies (NASSCOM).

Ramanujam said it was important to take the job opportunities across tier II and tier III cities would help in the growth of the IT sector in the country.

“If we are not careful, the story of this excellent demographic dividend can turn into a demographic dagger. Nasscom’s top priority is making India the world’s digital hub,” Ramanujam told Economic Times in an interview.

NASSCOM works with government bodies, companies, and educational institutions to help build policies that can support the growth of the IT sector.

Ramanujam said that students entering the IT market now should be armed with the relevant skills.

“Reaching $350 billion (IT BPM sector revenue) is very much within the realms of possibilities within the next three to five years given the demand momentum that all the NASSCOM member companies have seen,” he added.

Ramanujam, who comes from a small village in Tamil Nadu, wants more significant opportunities for students outside of top-tier cities.

“Just as people of my generation were catapulted to an unimaginable level of prosperity 30-40 years ago, the same potential exists for the next two generations, at least in our tier II and tier III cities, to make that leap,” he said.
