India should be able to launch 6G services by 2030, says PM Narendra Modi

Narendra Modi, the Indian Prime Minister, has said India should be ready to launch 6G services by the end of this decade. While speaking at a program celebrating the 25th anniversary of the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI), PM Narendra Modi also asserted that India had become the world’s biggest mobile manufacturing hub.

As India prepares itself to launch the 5G network, PM Modi said the technology would not just increase internet speed but also the pace of development and create more jobs in the future.

“5G will contribute $450 billion to the Indian economy. Besides the speed of the Internet, 5G will also increase the speed of economic development and employment generation. It will boost agriculture, health, education, infrastructure, and logistics growth. By the end of this decade, we should be able to launch 6G services, and our task force has started working on it,” PM Modi said at the silver jubilee event.

PM Modi said TRAI played an instrumental role in the transition as India moved transparently to 4G and is now going to 5G.

“The country has made rapid strides from 3G to 4G and now 5G and 6G, out of the despair, frustration, corruption, policy paralysis of 2G era. Our telecom sector is a great example of how self-reliance and healthy competition create a multiplier effect in society and the economy,” he said.

PM Modi further said that “mobile manufacturing units in India have expanded from 2 to over 200, and the country is now the world’s biggest mobile manufacturing hub.”
