Meta global affairs director Nick Clegg praises Mark Zuckerberg's leadership

Meta’s global affairs director Nick Clegg has praised the leadership qualities of Mark Zuckerberg. Nick Clegg sees no reason for Mark Zuckerberg to hand over the reins to someone else and believes the 38-year-old will continue to be at the helm for “many, many years.”

Even as founders of tech giants like Amazon, Twitter, and Google have all handed responsibilities to fresh blood, Zuckerberg stays unmoved despite facing criticisms over the years. Zuckerberg was criticized for spreading misinformation across Facebook and over privacy scandals.

Recently, Meta chief operating officer (COO) Sheryl Sandberg announced her departure after 14 years. Meanwhile, the company replaced Sandberg with chief growth officer Javier Olivan. While expanding its C-Suite, Meta Platform Inc. also promoted Guy Rosen as its first chief information security officer (CISO).

‘Architect of Metaverse’

Meta’s next big project is metaverse, and the company leaves no stone unturned to introduce it to the world. Metaverse is a combination of virtual reality, augmented reality, and video to users an immersive experience.

“It’s a multi-year project. It would make sense to me that Mark Zuckerberg would want to continue to build this new chapter of the company, and that’s going to last for many years, many years,” Clegg told AFP during the Summit of the Americas in Los Angeles.

“He is the founder of the company, of Meta, but he is also the architect of the new chapter, of this construction, of these augmented realities and virtual reality technologies,” he said.

In 2014, Meta, then Facebook, acquired Oculus and launched a social VR platform. It has taken the gaming industry by storm with its immense popularity on Fortnite and Roblox.

“The next platform and medium will be even more immersive and embodied internet where you’re in the experience, not just looking at it, and we call this the metaverse,” Mark Zuckerberg had said in October 2021 after rebranding Facebook as Meta.
