Meta appoints Guy Rosen as its first chief information security officer

Meta Platforms Inc. has named Guy Rosen as its first chief information security officer (CISO) as the company looks to promote safety and security on its platforms. Guy Rosen previously held the position of vice president of integrity at the company.

Guy Rosen, who has worked with Facebook since 2013, said he was “honored” and “excited” by this new opportunity.

“Confirming an update to my role. As CISO, I will continue to oversee and look across the breadth of safety & security risks the people who use our services, our company, and our industry face. I’m honored to take on this new role and excited for the work ahead,” Rosen wrote on Twitter.

Rosen most recently led Meta’s product safety and integrity efforts and served as a product vice president overseeing the company safety and integrity efforts.

Alex Stamos was the last person in an equivalent role at Facebook, but he left the company in 2018.

‘Elevation Of Security Work’

In October 2021, Facebook was renamed Meta Platforms Inc., but the tech giants kept the name “Facebook” for their social media platform.

Rosen’s new role is an expansion of his previous position, and it is believed his promotion will allow the company to adequately balance privacy and security.

According to Reuters, Meta Chief Executive Mark Zuckerberg said the move was “another step to elevate this security work in our DNA – and strengthen our leadership and governance on security issues.”

“Rosen will have overall accountability for safety and security around on-platform abuse as well as the security of our products, infrastructure, and company information – focused on both internal and external risks,” Zuckerberg wrote in a memo.
