Indian cybersecurity agency CERT-In flags vulnerabilities in Google Chrome OS, Mozilla Firefox

The Indian Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT-In) has recommended users upgrade to the latest versions of the Google Chrome OS and Mozilla Firefox browsers. In its advisory, CERT-In has flagged multiple vulnerabilities in older versions of browsers, allowing hackers access to sensitive data.

CERT-In, in its report, marked the severity rating as “high” and mentioned the possibilities of cyberattacks via the older versions of Google Chrome OS and Mozilla Firefox browsers.

“Multiple vulnerabilities have been reported in Mozilla products which could allow a remote attacker to disclose sensitive information, bypass security restrictions, execute arbitrary code, perform spoofing attacks and cause a denial of service (DoS) attack on the targeted system,” according to an advisory published on CERT-In website.

The vulnerabilities are present in the Chrome version prior to 96.0.4664.209, while the Mozilla Firefox version prior to 101.

“These vulnerabilities exist in Google Chrome OS due to Heap buffer overflow in V8 Internationalization. Successful exploitation of these vulnerabilities could allow an attacker to execute arbitrary code on the targeted system,” CERT-In stated.
