Amazon Web Services announces launch of second cloud infrastructure in India

With a $4.4 billion (Rs 36,300 crore) investment in the nation by 2030, Amazon Web Services (AWS) has announced opening its second AWS infrastructure region in India, in Hyderabad. This area would support approximately 48,000 full-time jobs annually.

According to a statement from the firm, the Amazon Web Services (AWS) Asia Pacific (Hyderabad) Region’s development and operation will “boost India’s GDP by about $7.6 billion by 2030.”

Customers will have access to cutting-edge AWS technologies, such as data analytics, security, machine learning, and artificial intelligence, to spur creativity (AI).

“The new AWS Asia Pacific (Hyderabad) Region is part of our long-term commitment to India to invest in cloud infrastructure, provide training to upskill the nation with digital capabilities, create local jobs, and enable a more sustainable future,” said Puneet Chandok, President, Commercial Business, AWS India and South Asia, AISPL.

The Hyderabad infrastructure will make it easier for developers, startups, businesses, and corporations to run their applications and service end users from local data centers and government, charitable, and educational institutions.

Amazon Web Services (AWS) driving impact at scale

Customers now have more options for running workloads with even better resilience and availability, securely storing data in India, and providing end users with even lower latency, thanks to the second AWS Region in India.

“With a second AWS Region in India, our customers have greater choice and flexibility to build new features, store critical data within the country, and scale their solutions. The Indian government is already leading innovation and driving impact at scale, with transformational initiatives including Co-WIN, eSanjeevaniOPD, and DigiLocker, which run on AWS,” said Rahul Sharma, President, Public Sector, AWS India and South Asia, AISPL.

AWS now has 96 available Zones spread across 30 geographic regions with the introduction of the AWS Asia Pacific (Hyderabad) Region. There are also plans to launch 15 new Availability Zones and five additional AWS Regions in Australia, Canada, Israel, New Zealand, and Thailand.
