Meta launches 3D avatars for Instagram in India

Meta has launched 3D avatars for Instagram in India for the first time. The social media giants have also launched the updated version of 3D avatars for Facebook and Messenger, which the tech giants say will be “more expressive, more customizable and more diverse.”

Meta has started rolling out the updated version of 3D avatars for Facebook, Messenger, Instagram Stories, and Direct Messages (DMs).

“Representations in the metaverse should reflect the diversity of the real world. Avatars are just the first step toward enabling everyone to express themselves in their unique ways. When you create your avatar, you can choose the right facial features, body types, clothing styles, and more to create your virtual self. We offered more than one quintillion different combinations when we launched our updated avatars last year, and we’re continuing to add more options to give people even more ways to express themselves,” Manish Chopra, Meta Director and Head Partnerships in India, said.

Users can select facial features, body types, clothing styles, etc., to make their virtual selves with 3D avatars. These virtual avatars can be used as stickers, feed posts, and Facebook profile pictures.

In February, Meta had announced 3D avatars for Instagram in select countries such as the USA, Canada, and Mexico.
